The State Labor Department today released local area unemployment rates for April 2012. All data in this release are not seasonally adjusted. The most valid comparisons with this type of data are year-to-year comparisons of the same month; for example, April 2011 versus April 2012.
The table below compares unemployment rates in the United States and New York State, as well as rates in the Upstate and Downstate regions and metro areas in the state in April 2011 and April 2012.
