Finishing Trades Institute of NY at Albany Recruits Apprentices

Rotterdam, NY (May 24, 2012) -

The Finishing Trades Institute of NY at Albany, Local Union #201, will conduct a recruitment from June 6, 2012 through May 29, 2013 for 10 painter, decorator and paperhanger apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.

Applications will be available at the Albany Labor Temple, 890 Third Street, Albany, NY from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, excluding holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have at least a 10th grade education.
  • Must have transportation to and from job sites and related instruction.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
