Boilermakers Recruit Apprentices

Albany, NY (December 06, 2012) -

Boilermakers Northeastern Joint Apprenticeship Committee, Local Lodge #5-Zone 197, will conduct a recruitment from February 5, 2013 through January 7, 2014 for 9 boilermaker (construction) apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Local Lodge #5-Zone 197, 75 South Dove Street, Albany, NY from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. 

All applications must be postmarked no later than January 7, 2014.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old - proof of age required when the applicant is presented with a bona fide offer of employment or at the time of indenture.
  • Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D) - proof required when the applicant is presented with a bona fide offer of employment or at the time of indenture.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required, as determined by a signed affadavit:
    • Able to work an 8-hour day continually on your feet.
    • Able to lift and carry weights in excess of 95lbs for extended periods.
    • Able to work through extended periods of extreme weather conditions and temperatures.
    • Able to work in restrictive or confined spaces.
    • Able to work at heights of 20-feet on a scaffold or platform.
    • Able to work in ditches or trenches up to 20-feet in depth
  • Must have reliable transportation to report to remote job sites and related instruction.
  • Must be willing to submit to a drug/alcohol test within 48 hours of signing the Apprentice Agreement; drug/alcohol test will be paid for by the sponsor.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
