Latham, NY (December 20, 2012) -

The Tri-City Electricians Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, IBEW Local Union #236, will conduct a recruitment from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013 for 60 electrician apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today

Applications are available any time, and must be filled out online on our website at http://www.tricityjatc.org/.  Applicants who do not have access to a computer and/or need assistance   may visit Local Union #236 at 428 Old Niskayuna Road, Latham, NY.  A computer is available at this site to apply. Applicants may also access computers by visiting local One-Stop Career Centers.         

The Committee requires that all applicants:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be a high school graduate, or have a general equivalency diploma (GED), with one year of algebra with passing grade.
• Must live within the Local Union's geographic jurisdiction (13 surrounding counties) - Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, Schoharie, Rensselaer, Montgomery, Warren, Hamilton, Washington, Fulton, Columbia, a small portion of Otsego (townships: Decatur, Worcester, East and South Worcester), and a portion of Greene County (north of Rte. 23A).

• Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by a physical exam.

• Must pass a drug test, at the sponsor's expense, at time of appointment.
• Must take, and obtain a score of 4 or higher, the NJATC Electrical Test, validated by the American Institutes for Research.
• Must be able to read and understand English.
• Must be able to and hear and understand verbal instructions and warnings given in English.
• Must be able and willing to get to and from work at various job sites within the geographic jurisdiction of Local Union #236.
• Must be able and willing to attend all related classroom training as required to complete apprenticeship program.
• Must be able to climb and work from ladders and scaffolds of various lengths and heights.
• Must be able to crawl and work in confined spaces such as attics, manholes and crawl spaces.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
