Electricians Recruit Apprentices

Clay, NY (April 25, 2012) -

The Electricians Joint Apprenticeship Committee of Syracuse, Local Union #43, will conduct a recruitment from June 13, 2012 through May 8, 2013 for 25 electrician apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the John J. Barry Training Center, 4566 Waterhouse Road, Clay, NY from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month, except legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications can also be completed on-line at http://www.cnyjatc.org/ anytime.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D), and must have one year of Algebra, Math I or the 1st year of High School Regents Math - transcripts required at the time of appointment.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required, as determined by a written self attestation/employment application. Requirements include the following:
    • Must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, poles or towers of various heights.
    • Must be able to crawl and work in confined spaces, such as attics, manholes and crawlspaces.
  • Must be able to read and understand English.
  • Must be able to hear and understand verbal instructions and warnings given in English.
  • Must be able to get to and from work at various job sites anywhere within the geographic area that the apprenticeship program covers.
  • Must take the American Institute for Research Electrical Aptitude Test. There is a fee of $20. Please note: You may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need.
  • Must prove negative on a drug screen, paid for by sponsor at the time of appointment.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
