Hauppauge, NY (July 10, 2012) -

The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers & Allied Workers, Local Union #154, will conduct a recruitment from July 26, 2012 through July 25, 2013 for five roofer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Roofers Local Union #154, 370 Motor Pkwy, Suite 1 Rear, Hauppauge, NY on Tuesday and Thursday of each month, excluding legal holidays, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the recruitment period. All applications must be received by July 25, 2013.

The Committee requires that applicants:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.).
• Must be physically able to perform the work required, as determined by a physical exam completed prior to start of work and paid for by Local Union #154.
• Must have reliable means of transportation to and from work sites and related instruction.
• Must reside within the jurisdiction of Local Union #154, which includes Nassau and Suffolk Counties, at the time of application.
• Must provide proof of residence (two items other than driver's license and car registration) and copy of high school diploma or equivalent, once accepted into the program.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
