Utica, NY (November 20, 2012) -

The Laborers International Union of North America, Local Union #35 will conduct a recruitment from November 30, 2012 through November 29, 2013 for six skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications may be obtained at the Local Union #35, 112 South Street, Utica, NY, on the last Friday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.  Note: If the last Friday of the month is a holiday, the recruitment date will be moved to the previous Friday of that month.

The Committee requires that applicants:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be a high school graduate or have a general equivalency diploma (G.E.D).
• Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and related instruction classes.
• Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by a physical and drug test, administered by a physician, at the sponsor's expense - after acceptance into the program.
• Must have six months of trade-related experience.
• Must be a resident of Local Union #35's jurisdiction, which includes the counties of Oneida, Herkimer, Madison and Hamilton; townships of Stratford, Oppenheim, Caroga, Ephrata in Fulton County; townships of St. Johnsville, Minden, Canajoharie, Palatine, Root in Montgomery County.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
