Electricians Recruit Apprentices

Binghamton, NY (September 20, 2012) -

The Electricians Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee of Binghamton, Local Union #325 IBEW, will conduct a recruitment from October 22, 2012 through September 23, 2013 for five electrician apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Local Union #325, 24 Emma Street, Binghamton, NY from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the fourth working Monday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.  Applications must be completed in person at the premises and cannot leave the building.

In order to take the aptitude test for this apprenticeship program, a non-refundable test fee of $22 must be received by the IBEW Local 325 JATC 2 weeks before the date of the test. Check or money order can be payable to IBEW Local 325 JATC and mailed to: IBEW Local 325 JATC, 24 Emma Street, Binghamton, NY 13905, or delivered in person to this address. ** Do not send cash. Only checks or money orders are acceptable payments unless applicant is paying in person. ** Applicants may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon a showing of verifiable proof of financial need.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D), with a passing grade in one year of Algebra, Math 1, or one year of high school Regents Math-an official transcript is required after acceptance into the program, prior to indenture.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by a physician of Committee's choice - after acceptance into the program.
  • Must be a resident in one of the following areas covered by this Committee for at least six (6) months:

    Broome County - All townships - entire county

    Chenango County - townships of Afton, Bainbridge, Coventry, German, Greene, Guilford, Lincklaen, McDonough, North Norwich, Norwich, Otselic, Oxford, Pharslia, Pitcher, Plymouth, Preston, Smithville, and Smyrna

    Delaware County - townships of Davenport, Delhi, Deposit, Franklin, Hamden, Masonville, Meredith, Sidney, Tompkins, Walton, and that portion of Colchester and Hancock north of the east branch of the Delaware River

    Otsego County - townships of Butternuts, Harwick, Laurens, Maryland, Milford, Morris, Oneonta, Otego, Unadilla, and Westford

    Tioga County - townships of Berkshire, Newark Valley, Owego, Richford, and Tioga

  • Must qualify for the interview by achieving a qualifying score (4 out of 9) on the electrical trade's aptitude test developed and validated by the American Institutes for Research.
  • Must be able to get to and from work at job sites anywhere within the geographical area that this apprenticeship covers.
  • Must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, poles and towers of various heights.
  • Must be able to crawl and work in confined spaces, such as attics, manholes and crawlspaces.
  • Must be able to read, hear and understand instructions and warnings.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
