Brookhaven National Laboratory Suffolk 06-16-2009 Brookhaven (Suffolk County) National Laboratory broke ground on June 15th, 2009 for a new $92 million x-ray machine, called the National Synchrotron Light Source II, the future home of the world's brightest light. Lab officials expect to employ approximately 1,000 workers on the construction of the 400,000 square foot facility. In addition it will create 200 science-related jobs to run the facility. Administrators for the company estimate 3,500 researchers from around the world will use the facility. (Newsday, June 16, 2009)
H2M Suffolk 06-12-2009 H2M, a multi-disciplined professional engineering and consulting firm in Melville (Suffolk County), has expanded its hiring by 15% since last year. It currently employs 280 people. The company primarily accepts municipal contracts (for example, turning brown fields into recreational facilities or upgrading sewage treatment plants). Pall Corp Nassau 06-09-2009 East Hills (Nassau) – based high-tech filtration systems manufacturer Pall Corporation won a $14.7 million municipal contract to design and install a water treatment system in Manila, the Philippines. The company will set up a new office in Manila for customer support and training. (Newsday – June 9, 2009)
Telephonics Corporation Suffolk 06-25-2009 The Farmingdale (Suffolk County)-based defense contractor Telephonics Corp. announced it has signed a contract with the Russian military to build 93 weather radar units for their Mi-17 helicopters. The contract may eventually extend to as many as 500 such units. (Newsday, June 25, 2009)

Seal-It Inc. Suffolk 57 06-15-2009 Seal-It Inc., a Farmingdale (Nassau County)-based manufacturer of shrink sleeve labels, will lay off 57 out of a total 225 employees between September 10th and September 24th, 2009 due to the slow economy. (WARN, June 15, 2009)
