Globecomm Systems Inc. Suffolk 07-24-2009 Globecomm Systems Inc, a satellite communications company in Hauppauge (Suffolk County) received a $5.7 million contract from a major media and entertainment company in Asia (customer not named) and anticipates completion of the project by the third quarter of 2010. The company also announced it received a contract modification adding $3.6 million to a $10 million contract with an undisclosed global customer to sell and service computers. HGA Quest Nassau 127 07-07-2009 Garden City (Nassau County)-based provider of retail merchandising services, HGA Quest, Inc. on July 7 announced plans to lay off 127 of its 160-person workforce on September 16, 2009. MetLife Insurance Co. Suffolk 200(Est.) 07-30-2009 Life insurer MetLife said it will relocate about 200 information-technology jobs from its Hauppauge (Suffolk County) office to a facility in Long Island City (Queens County) by the fall. Most of the Hauppauge employees will be going to Long Island City, according to the company. (Newsday, July 30, 2009)
OSI Pharmaceuticals Suffolk 200(Est.) 07-08-2009 Melville and Farmingdale (both Suffolk)-based OSI Pharmaceuticals Inc., Long Island’s largest pharmaceutical laboratory, announced plans to leave the Island and moving to Ardsley (Westchester County). The company has 350 U.S. employees, including 200 on Long Island. OSI wants to consolidate its U.S operations onto a single campus. The company says all the employees - many of them quite well paid - will be offered positions in Ardsley. (Newsday – July 8, 2009)
Raytel Cardiac Services, Inc. Nassau 150 07-30-2009 Lake Success (Nassau County)-based healthcare monitoring company Raytel Cardiac Services, Inc. announced plans to close by May 1, 2010. The first layoff - of 58 employees - will take place on October 31, 2009. As of the date of this notice, the company employed a total of 150 people. (WARN Notice, July 30, 2009)
USM Transfield Services Group Suffolk 88 07-15-2009 Ronkonkoma (Suffolk County)-based janitorial service provider USM Transfield Services Group (also known at one time as both Tower Cleaning Systems and Whelans International) announced plans to permanently close its Ronkonkoma facility. 88 employees will be laid off between October 13th through October 26, 2009. World Alliance Financial Group Suffolk 157 07-10-2009 Melville (Suffolk County)-based reverse mortgage lender World Alliance Financial Corp. (known until January 2008 as “Vertical Lend”) filed a WARN notice on July 10 announcing plans to lay off 157 of the company’s 201 employees on October 5. (WARN Notice, July 10, 2009)
