CA, Inc. (formerly Computer Associates) Suffolk 135(Est.) 04-07-2010 Islandia (Suffolk)-based CA Inc. (formerly Computer Associates) plans to lay off 1,000 workers worldwide, including 135 on Long Island. The downsizing, which will affect roughly 8% of CA's workforce, will cost the company $47 million in severance payments. Most of the layoffs will occur in three weeks. (Newsday, April 7, 2010)
Ivy Asset Management Corp. Nassau 72 04-05-2010 Jericho (Nassau)-based securities portfolio manager Ivy Asset Management LLC, a subsidiary of BNY Mellon, has filed an "amended" WARN notice dated April 5, 2010. The company now plans to lay off 72 (rather than 60, as stated in the WARN of 2/11/10) of the 83 people working at the office. Layoffs will begin on May 13 and continue through September 30, 2010. Stony Brook University Suffolk 400(Est.) 04-08-2010 Facing a severe budget shortfall, Stony Brook (Suffolk) University says it will close most programs at its Southampton (Suffolk) campus. The school purchased the campus from Long Island University four years ago, refurbishing dorms and completing the library. The current austerity plan calls for preserving only the marine science and writing programs in Southampton. The school will lay off a (as yet unspecified) number of non-tenured instructors and workers. (Newsday, April 8, 2010)
United Bus Company Suffolk 130 04-05-2010 Coram (Suffolk)-based school transportation provider United Bus Corporation announced in a recent WARN Notice that the company is for sale and will close by June 30, 2010. 130 employees stand to lose their jobs. (WARN Notice, April 5, 2010)
