The unemployment rate in the Utica-Rome MSA increased from 4.1 percent in April 2019 to 15.1 percent in April 2020.  The unemployment rate rose from 4.9 percent in March. 

Change in Nonfarm Jobs since April 2019

For the 12-month period ending April 2020, the nonfarm job count in the Utica-Rome MSA decreased 22,300, or 17.3 percent, to 106,700.  Private sector employment fell 20,200, or 20.9 percent, to 76,500.
Job losses were posted in:  leisure and hospitality (-5,700), trade, transportation, and utilities (-4,800), education and health services (-4,500), government (-2,100), manufacturing (-2,000), professional and business services (-1,300), other services (-900), natural resources, mining, and construction (-800), financial activities (-100) and information (-100).
