There were two pathways to licensure for licensed behavior analysts and certified behavior analyst assistants.
Pathway One (Grandparenting provisions - No Longer Available): This Pathway was available for applicants who submitted an application to the Department before January 9, 2016. Applicants who meet the requirements for licensure/certification as a licensed behavior analyst or as a certified behavior analyst assistant, except for examination, experience and education, and who were certified or registered by a national certifying body that has certification or registration standards acceptable to the Commissioner of Education, such as the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), could have been licensed using this pathway without meeting additional requirements as to examination, experience and education, if they met the following requirements established by section 8804 of New York's Education Law:
Although Pathway One has expired, the licenses and certifications issued under it will not.
Note: Although evidence of completion of the required training on the Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment was not required for a license/certification to be issued under this pathway, evidence of such training will be required at the time of registration renewal when the initial three-year registration is due to expire.
Pathway Two (standard licensing provisions): The New York State Board of Regents have adopted regulations to implement the statutory requirements for licensure and certification for this Pathway. Unlike Pathway One, this pathway does not expire. Applicants may be licensed/certified as licensed behavioral analysts or certified behavioral analyst assistants if they meet the following requirements established by section 8804 of New York's Education Law and Subpart 79-17 of the Commissioner's Regulations.
-The fee for certification and first registration as a certified behavior analyst assistant is $225.
-The fee for a limited permit for a certified behavior analyst assistant is $70.
